Godaddy only allows gzip on php files that you copy and pates their code into. They do not accept the htacess Module comments. Weak sauce is what I say. So, you can't compress any other files besides php. End of story

Hey, Thanks for this very good help.

RE: Chris who had troubles, it was the quotes - they aren't the ascii - I had error 500, noticed the quotes didn't look correct - edited those and got it to work.

Not sure about windows hosting with all honesty as i've been using linux hosting all my life. Using a windows based hosting package will strip away all the functionality you get with a linux account. will try and post something for you soon.

yeah I thought this was gonna be a great post too. I been looking for 4 days to resolve this problem cause godaddy is such friggin garbage I swear i dont know how they live with themselves. I plan to investigate on switching hostings however this htaccess code would not work for me... no surprise things rarely do but maybe you could let me know why? it just breaks my site with 500 internal errors even if i only put the leverage cache stuff in it without the redirects and gzip I dont see a subscribe link to this comment section so can you email me if you know why this would not be working on my site? or just go to my site and use the contact us. Thanks
