I’ve seen plenty of posts and discussions with not a solid answer as to how to stream MP3′s and such to your Lexus sedan or SUV (Pre 2010) and I thought this would be a great post to let the owners know that this is actually possible. I’ve managed to do this in my 2009 Lexus RX330 SUV and have been enjoying streaming my music in the Lexus SUV for a few months now and I think it’s time I let you all in on how to accomplish this. Note: This fix is valid for most Lexus Sedan’s and SUV’s ranging from 2004 – 2009 including the RX & GS Models!
In order for you to get this done, we are going to do the streaming a little differently. We’re going to use the Voice Memo’s application to perform the task of streaming the audio files.
What we’re basically going to do, is import your sound files into the Voice Memos App using a freeware program called Adapter. This software is available for both Windows & Mac. I know some will argue that this can be accomplished by simply importing the MP3 into itunes and changing the Media Kind to Voice Memos and that should do it. Well, that is correct, but 4 out of 5 times, I’ve rebooted my phone and the media files disappeared out of the app. After syncing with itunes again, I was informed that the files were not compatible with the Voice Memos App. So, adapter it is and just convert your media to M4A files which are 100% compatible with the iPhone.
Upon installing the Adapter software, you can import your files or drag and drop them right into the queue. Remember to specify where you would like the new files to be placed. You also want to change the output format to M4A. Once all the settings are correct, click on the Start Conversion button.
Once you’ve imported your newly created M4A files, you want to change their media kind settings from Music to Voice Memo. You can accomplish this by doing the following:
- Right click on the audio file you just imported
- Click on Get Info
- Select the Options Tab
- Change the Media Kind from Music to Voice Memo
- Click Ok
Once you’re done changing your media kind on your files to voice memo, you are now ready to sync the files to your iPhone.
Making sure your iPhone is connected to iTunes, select the music tab. A very important option which we’re sure you’ve overlooked in the past is the Include voice memos option. You want to make sure that you put a checkmark next to that option in order for your newly created voice memos to be synced with your iPhone.
After iTunes has finished syncing your device, when you view the voice memos in the iOS app, you should then see your files. From here you can either listen to them, or share them via e-mail or MMS.
After iTunes has completed syncing with your iPhone, viewing your voice memos in iOS will display the newly synced files. At this point, what you want to do is pair your phone to your Lexus Sedan or SUV and get on with your streaming straight to your car’s audio system without any more headaches!
